Riveredge Hospital offers the only specialized inpatient behavioral health program for adults with an intellectual or developmental disability in the state of Illinois. Our facility is located just a few miles west of Chicago, Illinois. 

People with intellectual disabilities often experience limitations with their intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior. Our trauma-informed inpatient programs for adults with intellectual disabilities provide comprehensive diagnostic and mental health treatment with the utmost care, compassion and professionalism in a structured environment.

We provide mental health services for adults with intellectual disabilities and intellectual disability care for patients who are in acute crisis due to mental illness, emotional distress or destructive behavior patterns. 

Our clinical team will collaborate with the family and service providers to develop a highly individualized intellectual disability treatment plan.

The length of stay can vary from a few days to a few weeks. Our medical and clinical team will collaborate with the family and service providers to determine the best course of treatment.

We believe in healing and recovery. Our highly qualified treatment team evaluates, engages and encourages individuals to modify their behaviors in a positive way. This program helps promote social skills to help the patient with intellectual disabilities. Our goal is for individuals to safely return to their communities with improved functioning.

A board-certified psychiatrist evaluates each individual to determine the most effective medication regimen. Throughout treatment, the psychiatrist will monitor medications and make adjustments as needed. As part of discharge planning, our clinical team works with families and service providers to develop the best possible aftercare plan.

We provide highly individualized and compassionate treatment options and plans for those with mental health problems. We strive to engage family members and service providers throughout treatment.
